The Shelburne Museum is a museum of art,
Americana , andAmerican architecture located in the town of Shelburne, in the U.S. state ofVermont . The museum's collection was begun byElectra Havemeyer Webb (1888 –1960 ), one of the first people to recognize the applied and decorative arts of rural America as collectible.Webb was a collector of American
folk art who founded the Museum in1947 . She took the step of relocating historic buildings fromNew England and New York toShelburne, Vermont in which to display the Museum's holdings. These include houses, barns, a meeting house, a schoolhouse, alighthouse , a jail, ageneral store , the reconstructed doctor's office of noted Vermont physicianD. C. Jarvis , acovered bridge , and the 220-footsteamboat Ticonderoga, which is a U.S.National Historic Landmark .
