DJ P (D.J.P) is Danny J. Phillips, a Hip hop DJ hailing from Springfield, Missouri.

He won the Disco Mix Club (DMC) Midwest Championship and competed against the country's top turntablists in San Francisco at the 1999 Disco Mix Club US Finals. He dropped Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is" over the beat from "Jam On It" by Newcleus, aiming the song's "they can't get a job" lyric at his competitors. Then he dropped Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More", assisted by a fat break-beat, as a warning to the other DJs to step off. Ever the b-boy, P topped his performance off by coming out in front of the tables and breaking and popping. He was the only DJ who received a standing ovation that night at The Palace of Fine Arts.

D.J.P plays all sorts of different music: 80s New Wave music, classic and alternative Rock, even Drum 'n' Bass, as well as the usual can't lose Hip Hop favorites, old and new. He can mix Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield" over the Pharcyde's classic "She Keeps On Passing Me By" and turn it into a mix about love lost that blends both rock and hip-hop. He can play Jane's Addiction's "Jane Says" over a dusted Mobb Deep beat, or Eminem's "Without Me" over "Billie Jean".. His underground Hip Hop mixes of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and U2's "With or Without You" have become word-of-mouth classics with underground DJs.

DJ P has also released several albums as well. "Uneasy Listening Vol. 1," his 2001 collaboration with DJ Z-Trip, blended everything from Phil Collins and Del tha Funkee Homosapien and The Who to Madonna's "Like a Prayer" and the famed "Apache" breakbeat. Although it was only released in a limited 1000-copy pressing in 2000, it showed up everywhere: in constant rotation on Kid Rock's tour bus stereo, in England where it was bootlegged onto vinyl, and on critics' Top Ten lists (New York's Village Voice, etc). Rolling Stone even named "Uneasy Listening" as one of the "Top Musical Moments" in 2002-two years after he and DJ Z-Trip released it.

P's has released several subsequent discs including "Out of Control," "Assholez and Elbowz," What's For Dessert" and his Halloween-themed "Hell on Wheels" series. "Hell On Wheels Vol. 2" took Biggie Smalls, Mystikal and the Beatles and monster-mashed them into a favorite disc of 2003 in critics' polls from New York to Portland, Oregon, where the disc has been praised - completely unsolicitedly, mind you - in the local media.

D.J.P has played everywhere-from basement parties at colleges to huge outdoor venues. He has been touring the country for almost a decade, beginning with MTV's 1999 Campus Invasion Tour with alt rockers Garbage (band) and Lit, and in the summer of 2003 with 311 (band).

DJ P has held club residencies at New York City, Springfield, MO and Portland, OR and most recently he has a resident DJ position in Las Vegas, where he can be seen every weekend at Club Moon and the Playboy Club in the legendary Palms Casino Resort. Discography

Manipulated Trax (1995)

This is the first official D.J.P release. Made while D.J.P was still working for the railroad (hence the clever title), it features mixes of LL Cool J, Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, and features D.J.P's scratching skills.

Out of Control (1998)

This is a very limited reissue of D.J.P's underground "Out of Control" mixtape. Originally released in 1998 in an edition of 30 or so copies in Missouri and Oklahoma. Featuring blends of classic hip hop & electro with bizarre excursions into jungle and early trip hop (Gang Starr, ODB, Public Enemy, Portishead, Jungle Brothers, Jeru, etc), this mix has been in demand for some time.

The Story and Song of Hell on Wheels, Volume 1 (1998)

D.J.P drops a very limited reissue of his "Story and Song From Hell On Wheels" mixtape - on CD. This album features dark music, from Ice Cube's "Wicked" to the classic Geto Boys "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me". Fully professionally manufactured with grotesque artwork.

What's For Dessert (2000)

D.J.P's first attack on mainstream Top 40 music, What's For Dessert features mixes of Ol' Dirty Bastard, Jay-Z, Will Smith, Eminem, P!nk, and Lil' Bow Wow (back when he was still Lil'). Look for this album to be re-released in the near future.

Azzholez and Elbowz, Gangsta Mix Vol. 1 (2000)

Originally released in 2000, D.J.P Re-released this album in 2005 with new artwork. This album is a mix of all of the best gangsta rap from the early to mid 1990s. Featuring tracks from Too Short, Spice 1, and NWA, and it also includes samples from all your favorite gangster flicks including Boyz N The Hood and GoodFellas.

The Song and Story of Hell On Wheels Volume 2 (2003)

Part 2 of the Hell On Wheels series, now with even more spooky Hip-Hop/Rock blends. Features D.J.P's blend of The Rocky Horror Picture Show's "Sweet Transvestite". Also features mixes of Eminem, Metallica, Dr. Octagon, The Grateful Dead, and movie clips from classic horror movies.

Suck My Mixx (2005)

D.J.P's latest release, another scathing take on mainstream Top 40. Here, he mixes some of his favorite '80's gems with current top 40 Hip-Hop, R&B and pop music. Features the blend of "The Milkshake Song" by Kelis mixed with Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger". Also features mixes of The Beastie Boys, Nirvana, Usher, and more.

Moodswings (2006)

This is a mix of D.J.P.'s favorite electronic and downtempo records. It is a bit of a change from the most recent mix CD's by P, but a must have for all D.J.P. fans!
