The labioscrotal folds (or labioscrotal swellings, or genital swellings) are paired structures in the humanembryo that represent the final stage of development of thecaudal end of the externalgenitals beforesexual differentiation . In both males and females the two swellings merge:* In the "female", they become the
posterior labial commissure . The sides of thegenital tubercle grow backward as the genital swellings, which ultimately form thelabia majora ; the tubercle itself becomes themons pubis . In contrast, thelabia minora are formed by theurogenital folds [ [http://www.hsc.unt.edu/tcom2006/Scribes/REPRO%201%20SCRIBES/Repro23-MaleFemaleEmbryo2.doc HSC - Gonad Descent and Development of External Genitalia II] ]
