Bill Olner was first elected to the House of Commons in 1992, as the Member of Parliament for Nuneaton. He was re-elected in the 1997 general election (majority 13,540), 2001 general election (majority 7,535) and 2005 general election (majority 2,280). The next General Election must be held by 3 June 2010; although Bill Olner will not be contesting the next general election as he has announced he is standing down at the end of the present parliament. Announcement of retirement as MP
Bill Olner declared his retirement as MP for Nuneaton on 25th March 2007, he will serve until the next general election in 2009/10. The Nuneaton Labour party's new candidate for the next election is Jayne Innes.
