William Phipps Blake

William Phipps Blake

William Phipps Blake (18261910) was an American geologist. He was born in New York City, graduated from the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale in 1852. He was mineralogist and geologist of the Pacific Railroad Exploring Expedition of 1853, and author of several of its reports. He edited the "Mining Magazine" (185960), was mining engineer for the Japanese government in 1862, and in 1863 was appointed professor of mineralogy in the College of California and geologist to the State Board of Agriculture. From 1896 to 1905 he was professor of geology and director of the School of Mines at the University of Arizona.

* "Ceramic Art and Glass" (1878)
* "Tombstone and its Mines" (1902)
