The Cork United name was revived in 1979 when the club which previously competed as Albert Rovers and then as Cork Albert adopted the name. This club played three seasons in the League of Ireland before being expelled in 1982 because of financial problems. The club then reverted to the Albert Rovers name and rejoined the junior leagues. They currently play in the Athletic Union League [1].
