- I Wanna Pick You Up
"I Wanna Pick You Up" is a song written by
Brian Wilson for the American pop bandThe Beach Boys . It was released on their1977 album "The Beach Boys Love You ".Two decades later, the song was covered by
Darian Sahanaja , who would later tour as a backup musician with Brian Wilson. Sahanaja's remake opens with a keyboard riff similar to the opening of The Beach Boys' "You Still Believe In Me," and ends with vocal harmonies borrowed from a "Heroes And Villains" outtake that were eventually used on the finished 'Smile' version of the song. Sahanaja's cover of "I Wanna Pick You Up" was released as a B-side of a vinyl single of a cover of Wilson's still-unreleased "Do You Have Any Regrets." The A-side was recorded in Brian Wilson's classic style, while Sahanaja interpreted the B-side as if it were part of The Beach Boys' "Smiley Smile" album. The rare single was pressed on blue vinyl with a label that was a parody of X Records, which was the label that released The Beach Boys' first single, "Surfin'" b/w "Luau."Details
