Aranattukara is a town of Thrissur City, Kerala, India.

Aranattukara takes its name from 'Ara Nattukara' with 'Ara' = half, 'Nadu' = land and "Kara" = banks/shore. This area is half water and half land. The city was also known as "ARA-NATTU-KARA", with Ara meaning "Godown", Nadu meaning Place, and Kara meaning banks of a river.

During the regime of Rama Varma Thampuran, the King of the Kochin Kingdom, maintained his administrative palace at Thrissur. Thrissur became the most important business centre of central Kerala and a successful port. The well known puthen thodu or puthen chal was the main way to Thrissur from Kochi. "VANJIKOLAM" was the gateway to Thrissur City. Ara Nattukara was the place for Ara or Godown. It is also heard that, the king divided the land and gave it for two Christian settlements for worship inorder to avoid the dispute among them. Both groups have their own churches known as "KIZHAKKE PALLI and PADINJARE PALLI" till they build their common church named ST. THOMAS CHURCH during 1970's

Aranattukara also houses Dr John Matthai Centre. Which is owned and run by University of Calicut. The place was adobe of legendry Ecomonist Dr John Matthai who inturn donated it to University of Calicut. The centre is called affectionately JMC centre. It has many faculties like School of Drama, Economics Research centre, MBA and the Best Among them is MCA Centre.

The MCA faculity is the Most Happening among them. The whole batch passed out since it had been formed are all well placed. The most remarkable batch which still whole JMC remembers "is 2007 batch". This batch had very special talents in it which still serves various areas in IT society.
