José Carlos de Araújo Nunes (born 7 March 1977 in Castelo de Paiva) is a Portuguese footballer, currently playing central defender with Real Mallorca of "La Liga".

After coming to prominence in Portugal with Sporting Clube de Braga, Nunes moved to Spanish side RCD Mallorca in January 2006, and quickly became a defensive mainstay for the Baleares team.
