* "K. petrolicus" (type) Dong, 1973"Kelmayisaurus" was an early
Cretaceous saurischian dinosaur genus . Its name refers to the petroleum-producing city ofKaramay in theXinjiang province of westernChina near where it was found. The fossils may be from theValanginian toAlbian stages, around 140 to 100 million years ago.Discovery and species
"Kelmayisaurus" is known only from jaw bones. It is a "
nomen dubium " due to the scant nature of the remains. Thetype species is "K. petrolicus", described by prolific Chinese paleontologistDong Zhiming . A second species, "K. giganticus", was mentioned by Grady in 1993, but probably does not pertain to "Kelmayisaurus".Classification
It was a
bipedal carnivore , possibly larger than "Allosaurus ". It has some features which resemble "Ceratosaurus ".References
