Be Still

"Be Still" is a song written by Dennis Wilson and Stephen Kalinich for the American pop band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1968 album "Friends". The song features Dennis Wilson on lead vocal.

The song is an important part of Dennis Wilson's composing career as it is believed by many historians of the band, along with his song "Little Bird", to be his first real composition. The song undoubtedly gave confidence to Dennis as he began regularly composing songs in years to come, some of which are regarded amongst the groups best efforts of the period. The only other composition that Dennis had either composed by himself or made a large contribution to was the song "Denny's Drums" which was released on the 1964 Beach Boys album "Shut Down Volume 2". "Be Still" was recorded in April, 1968 at Brian's home studio and I.D. Sound studios. The song features a simple instrumental backing with Dennis' lead vocal assisting by his brother Carl. The song was once thought to be a song co-written with Charles Manson though this of course is false, though he did co-write one of the later Dennis Wilson compositions, "Never Learn Not to Love".
