Chicago Diner

Chicago Diner

The Chicago Diner is a vegetarian restaurant located on Chicago's north side. It is located in the Lakeview (Chicago) neighborhood on Halsted Street. Opened in 1983 by Mickey Hornick and Jo Kauchner, the diner offers all-American style menu items that are strictly vegetarian, and most are suitable for vegans as well. Almost any non-vegan item can be made with vegan substitutions. A few items, such as omelettes, cannot be made vegan. Many of the menu items include faux meat made from seitan or tofu. There are also raw food choices, organic beer and wine, and vegan wines.Several varieties of the Diner's vegan desserts are on sale at Whole Foods locations around the city.

In an interview with actor John C. Reilly in the August 11, 2006 issue of Entertainment Weekly, the Chicago native listed the Chicago Diner on his "must list." [ [http://www.veggiediner.com/newsletters/newsletter42.htm Chicago Diner newsletter ] ]
