Doug Roulstone is an American politician and 27-year veteran of the
United States Navy . He was the2006 Republican candidate for Congress in Washington's Second Congressional District, challenging incumbent DemocratRick Larsen . Roulstone was defeated by Larsen, receiving 35.8% of the vote to Larsen's 64.2%. Roulstone, born in
Norfolk, Virginia , the son of NavyCaptain Don John "Jack" Roulstone , graduated from theUnited States Naval Academy and served as ahelicopter pilot for many years, accumulating 3500 flight hours. His first flying assignment was search-and-rescue atNAS Whidbey Island , where he rescued 107 people in the1975 Snohomish River valley flood. After living there for years, he and his wife decided to make the region their permanent home.In
1989 Roulstone assumed command of a helicopter anti-submarine squadron in a forward combat role with theNavy SEALs in the initial ground mission ofOperation Desert Storm . He was later assigned as theExecutive Officer of theUSS Dwight D. Eisenhower .In
1997 he was made theCommanding Officer of theUSS John C. Stennis .Captain Roulstone served in nearly 100 countries, and has been awarded the Bronze Star and
Combat Action Ribbon . He was President of the Everett Council of the Navy League.Roulstone lives in
Snohomish County, WA with his wife, Bonnie, and their two sons, Whit and Harrison. He is co-owner of a company that designs and manufactures precision machined parts for companies likeBoeing , and employs over 150 people. He started the Machining Pathway Partnership program to supply high-end machining technology to local schools to train them in machine design.References
