La Plata Basin

La Plata Basin

The Río de la Plata Basin ( _es. Cuenca del Plata) is the name given to the 3,100,000 km² hydrographical area that covers parts of Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The precipitations falling within this area are collected by several rives to finally reach the Río de la Plata, many of them through the Paraná River and the Uruguay River, its two most important tributaries.

Among such rivers are the Paraguay, Pilcomayo, Bermejo, Salado, Carcarañá, Tercero, Cuarto, Iguazú, Salado del Sur, Gualeguay, Nogoyá, Mocoretá, Gualeguaychú, Miriñay, Aguapey, Negro, Guaycurú, San Javier, Guayquiraró and Samborombón.
