Aweida

Aweida

King Aweida (born in Boe, in 1850 - died at Gabab channel in 1921) was a royal man in the Pacific nation of Nauru.

Place in history

Before Nauru came under European rule, it was governed by the king who made laws that were enforced by their own chiefs. When Germany annexed Nauru to German New Guinea, Aweida retained his sovereignty as king and he remained the chieftain of the Nauruan people. Little else is known about him.
