The station signed on as KKIB in 1983 as the
flagship station ofcontemporary hit radio (Top 40) formatted "Superstation Double K FM" network, which was also broadcast onKKWS 105.9 FM inWadena, Minnesota andKKVC inValley City, North Dakota . It then became KLTA in 1984 with anAdult Contemporary format as "Lite Rock 105". KLTA tweaked to aHot AC format in 2004 with the "FM 105.1" moniker. In March 2006, aRadio Data System (RDS) was installed to the transmitter which brought title and artist information along with the broadcast to cars that accepted the RDS signal. In May 1999, Triad Broadcasting reached a deal to acquire this station from Brothers Jim and Tom Instad as part of a twelve-station deal valued at a reported $37.8 million.
