Wild Rovers Society

Wild Rovers Society

The Wild Rovers Society, founded in 2003, comprises University of Birmingham alumni. It evolved from the annual Athletic Union Reunion (now known as University Sport Birmingham). The Society’s founding members aimed to provide a mechanism by which alumni of BURFC and Sportex can network and maintain links with friends. The Society has gone from strength to strength, increasing its membership and expanding across countries. A Partners Wing has recently been established to accommodate the increasing popularity amongst members partners and spouses.

Activities

The Society has evolved into an organisation that arranges and undertakes social and sporting activities. Its current membership spans the globe, with regular meetings of the different Chapters in their respective countries. Biennial meetings of the whole Society are held, with all members expected to attend. The Society has developed its own Constitution, providing a full breakdown of its rules and regulations.

The ethos of the Society is encompassed in its motto:

"Adsum Volatice Amicus"

Chuffbox

The invention of Chuffbox is closely related to the Society. It has its origins in a small pub in Hamburg, but saw rapid growth in the early 21st century. This gaming phenomenon is spreading its way across Western Europe. In recent times a new force has tried to alter the spread of Chuffbox by introducing a new form. This has seen the development of rival factions, namely the World Chuffbox Organisaton (WCO) and the International Chuffbox League (ICL). The ICL have strayed away from the original premise of the game in those early days in Hamburg and have tried to take the game to an extreme nature. The WCO by contrast have stayed with the amateur roots of the game. The two factions are likely to come face to face at the inaugural Chuffbox Championship.
