college preparatory school in the Holy Cross tradition, is located inForestville, Maryland . It is located in theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington .History
In September 1992, following the closing of neighboring, all-girls LaReine High School, McNamara became a co-educational institution dedicated to preparing both young women and men for the challenges of the 21st century. While expanding the academic, cultural and athletic activities to include all students, many traditions of the two schools were also retained to provide continuity for current students and alumni.
In keeping with the McNamara-LaReine legacy of academic excellence, the graduating class of 2008 achieved a 100% college acceptance rate to colleges and universities world-wide. The graduates earned over $13 million in scholarships, financial aid and grants.
Athletics
Bishop McNamara's women's basketball team has established itself as one of the premier teams in not only the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), but the entire nation as well. In 2005, the team was ranked #1 by USA Today, and the team finished with only one loss in the WCAC semifinals to eventual champions St. John's College High School. However in the 2008 season the Lady Mustangs became WCAC champions defeating Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.
Bishop McNamara's other sports teams have done well lately also. The football team made the playoffs in 2006 under coach Bryce Bevill, and continue their good form this season thanks to the strength of their dedicated players. The men's soccer team made a strong run in the WCAC playoffs, stunning #3 seed Archbishop Carroll High School 3-2 on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals before losing 2-1 to eventual champions Gonzaga College High School in overtime. Other Athletic teams are on the rise such as the wrestling team with the strength of two time all conference champion Andrew Banister (2006,2007). The men's baseball team is also on the rise for the 2008 season under the new direction of Larry Prange, Ed Smith, and Tommy Ballenger. Four games in they've already equaled the total number of wins they had last year.
