He used to play as a defender, but has converted to midfield with the Black and Greens.Starting his career as a trainee with Shrewsbury, he made his first appearance in the 2-2 League Two draw at Carlisle United on
February 14 ,2006 . His second and final match of the 2005-06 season came in the 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town onApril 15 ,2006 .At the end of the season, following the completion of his three-year scholarship programme, he was handed a professional contract despite failing to convince club manager Gary Peters of his worth. Peters said, " [He] was injured most of the way through it so last year I gave a year pro contract to see if he could prove himself. He's not convinced me yet but is a late developer so I've given him another year to prove himself."
