The [http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/fennycompton.htm GWR station] and [http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/fennycompton.htm SMJ station] were built alongside each other controlled by a joint signal box. The village has a doctor's consulting-room, a small general store, and two pubs. The old part of the village has many notable buildings including Knotts Cottage.

Its name comes from the Anglo-Saxon "Fennig Cumbtūn" = "marshy farmstead in a valley".
