Harvey Hollister Bundy

Harvey Hollister Bundy Sr., (March 30, 1888 - October 7, 1963), was an American lawyer, Special Assistant to the Secretary of War during the second World War, and father of McGeorge Bundy. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to McGeorge Bundy, a lawyer, he was grandson to Solomon Bundy, a lawyer and New York Congressman. [cite web

In 1914, Harvey began working for Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. In 1917, he married Katherine Lawrence Putnam, niece to Harvard president Abbott Lawrence Lowell.

Harvey became Assistant Secretary of State in July 1931 until March 1933 under Henry Lewis Stimson, also a Skull & Bones member. Harvey’s son McGeorge would co-author a book with Stimson entitled "On Active Service in Peace and War" in 1940. Harvey was special legal assistant to the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. During World War II he served again under Stimson, now Secretary of War, as his Special Assistant on Atomic Matters [cite web

He did liaison work between the War Department and Office of Scientific Research and Development. After the war, he became president of the board of trustees of the World Peace Foundation. He succeeded John Foster Dulles as chairman of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, serving from 1952 to 1958. [cite news
