(Cuvier, 1831)The galjoen, black bream, or blackfish, Dichistius capensis, is a species of marine fish that is found only along the coast of South Africa. Length up to 55 cm, weight up to 7 kg. It appears in particular to be partial to the white mussels residing in the sandy beaches and inlets of the rocky outcrops along the southern coast.
It is the national fish of South Africa.
