Caldy railway station

Caldy railway station

Caldy railway station was opened in 1909 on the Chester and Birkenhead Railway Hooton to West Kirby branch to the west of the village of Caldy. The station consisted of a single platform on a single-track section of the line and was built from corrugated iron and consisted of a ticket office, waiting room and male & female toilets. The station was located on top of a high embankment due to a local land-owner objecting to the original intended course of the line; this resulted in the station being much closer to the coast of the River Dee than was planned.

Caldy railway station closed in 1954 and the route of the line was used to establish the first country park, the Wirral Country Park.
