Antoni Wit (born
1944 ,Kraków ) is a Polish conductor. He is the present musical director of theWarsaw Philharmonic Orchestra .Wit graduated from Krakow's State Higher School of Music, studying conducting under
Henryk Czyz and composition underKrzysztof Penderecki , going on to study underNadia Boulanger in Paris.Wit has conducted the
Berlin Philharmonic ,Staatskapelle Dresden , theAccademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, theZurich Tonhalle Orchestra and in London theBBC Symphony Orchestra ,Philharmonia Orchestra andLondon Philharmonic Orchestra . He has recorded over 90 albums, most of them for theNaxos label, and specializes in the works of Polish composers such asHenryk Gorecki ,Wojciech Kilar ,Krzysztof Meyer ,Witold Lutoslawski andKrzysztof Penderecki . Wit received a Cannes Classical Award for his album ofOlivier Messiaen 's "Turangalila Symphony ", and high acclaim has also been granted to his recording ofBedřich Smetana 's "Má vlast " cycle.Wit currently teaches at at the
Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music inWarsaw .External links
