(1981)"Funeral Pyre" was the The Jam's thirteenth single released on 6th June 1981. Backed by the
B-side "Disguises", a cover of a Who track, it reached #4 in the UK Singles chart. ["Funeral Pyre single by The Jam" [http://www.thejam.org.uk/jams13.html] ]The recording is the most fiercely delivered amongst the group's singles discography, and is noted for
Rick Buckler 's particularly frenetic and prominent drum track. This may be accounted for by the fact that the song's genesis was a studio jam between Buckler and bassist Bruce Foxton, with Paul Weller's contribution coming later. (Thus the musical elements overshadow the lyrical.)The song does not appear on any of the band's studio albums.
