- Jawai Dam
Jawai dam (जवाई बान्ध) is a
dam built across theJawai river , a tributary ofLuni river . The dam is situated nearSumerpur town inPali District ofRajasthan state in India.The dam was built by Maharaja
Umaid Singh ofJodhpur in 1946. This village covers an area of 500 sq. km besides being: Winter paradise for migratory birds. It is the main water supply source forJodhpur city and parts of Pali district. if there is sufficient water in the dam, then some villages ofJalore district andPali district get water for irrigation from the Jawai dam.The dam has capacity of 6000 million qubic feet and its height is about 60 feet. Sei dam is the feeder dam of the Jawai dam.
One can see
sarus cranes ,comb duck ,spotbill duck in the dam. During the winter,demmossile ,common eastern crane ,barheaded geese andmigrating birds descent on the water.Crocodile s bask on the dam shores.There are panther,
bear ,hyena ,wolf ,nilgai andchinkara in the hills around Jawai dam. Sometimes one can seejackal s andjungle cat s drinking water at the dam.
