Takhatgarh audio|Takhatgarh.ogg|pronunciation (तखतगढ), is a town in Pali District of Rajasthan state in India located near the Jalore district border. It lies on Jalore-Sanderao road. There is an old Jain temple of Shri Adinath Bhagwan in the town. There is an anecdote which says that it has been named after the king "Takhat singh". Here people speak mostly Marwari language, while official language is Hindi. There is one pond and one dam also in Takhatgarh. Pond water is very useful here in increasing water level in wells used for drinking water supply to the town. There is one Govt Hospital, while many private clinics run by individual doctors. Here life is very peaceful.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Takhatgarh had a population of 15,809. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Density per sq km is 659. Growth rate of population from 1991 to 2001 is 28.48%. Takhatgarh has an average literacy rate of 51%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 36%. In Takhatgarh, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Administration

Takhatgarh comes under Sumerpur tehsil of Pali district in Rajasthan state. It is a municipality of class IV since 1974. There are 15 wards for the municipality. Presently Takhatgarh has BJP board and Chairmain is Mrs. Amba devi Raval.

Education

There is one Govt High school having classes VI to XII, three Govt. primary school and two Govt Girls Schools. While in Private there are many primary and middle schools out of which Defence Public school, Abhay Public School and Adarsh school are main.

People and Culture

Here people are mostly agircultue dependents and many people do business in other states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamilnadu etc. There are mainly three relision Hindu, Jain and Muslim. They celebrate every festival with full enjoy. Deepawali, Holi and Eid are the main festivals here. The town is a center for the nearby all villages.

hri P L Mistry- A Forgotten Innovator

Late Shri Poonamchand Lakha Mistry (श्री पूनमचन्द लखाजी मिस्त्री) born in 1914 in a poor family, was an outstanding innovator of his time. Poonamchand couldn’t continue his education after fifth standard because he had to assist his father in carpentry work. Shri P L Mistry has been awarded posthumously by Second National Grassroots Technological Innovation and Traditional Knowledge Awards - 2002 for his great inventions like Wise platform ticket machine, automatic air pump for bicycles and other innovations. The other innovations that he had developed and in most cases patented are: (a) improved tea coffee maker, (b) animal body weight drawn water lifting pump, (c) device for constant pressure of water in pipeline/tap, (d) improved machine for making chapatis/puris, (e) system for prevention of train collision and accident due to derailment and sabotaging, (f) improved churner, (g) small flour mill, (h) folding cradle, (i) cloth washing and drying machine, (j) folding swing bed, (k) automatic lighting and delighting kerosene lamp and (l) power generation from road traffic.

Like many innovators, he had worked on many ideas, not all of which were equally feasible or practical. Nonetheless, his life story needs to get included in the syllabus of primary education so that many more children can draw inspiration and embark upon similar innovative trails. Obviously, science and technology policy planners never cared to highlight the role of grassroots innovations. It is his destiny that now he has been forgotten.

Transport

The usual mode of transport is state owned buses, although private buses are also a part of it, whereas for long journeys trains are preferred and the most preferred one station is Falna, which is approx 28 km from the town, while some people prefer Jawai Bandh also.
