Anthony Rains Berg was born on October 21, 1954 in Connecticut. At an early age he became infatuated with the music of
The Beatles andThe Rolling Stones . This love affair with British rock and roll prompted young Tony to pick up the guitar.By the late 70's Tony had become an accomplished session guitarist and appeared on several notable releases including
Air Supply ,Debby Boone ,The Rocky Horror Picture Show and severalMuppet Show releases. It wasn't till the early 80's that Tony founded Zeitgeist Studios and began producing an impressive array of acts. His first major success was withMichael Penn 's 1989 debut "March". From there Tony went on to produceEdie Brickell ,Public Image Limited ,Altered State (album) , andAimee Mann as well as an extensive collection of other artistically outstanding artists.In the early 90's Berg became an A&R exec with
Geffen Records where he played an important role in signing artists such asBeck ,Wild Colonials ,Black Rebel Motorcycle Club ,At the Drive-In etc. During this time he continued to produce countless records and play on a wide variety of releases includingPeter Gabriel 's, "Up".In 2004 Tony founded
Three Records with industry veteranMichael Rosenblatt and super producerEric Valentine . Their first release wasMellowdrone 's "Box".Around the same time Tony's youngest daughter
Elizabeth Berg had created the bandThe Like withCharlotte Froom andTennessee Thomas , both of whom were also offspring of well known music industry giants,Mitchell Froom (producer) andPete Thomas (Elvis Costello 's drummer).The Like 's debut album "Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?" was released on Sept. 13, 2005 onGeffen Records . The album received rave reviews including theNME 's infamous statement "these songs really blossom". He also has a son Thomas who is in a local Los Angeles band named Thetan Level Seven.
