Tony Berg

Anthony Rains Berg was born on October 21, 1954 in Connecticut. At an early age he became infatuated with the music of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. This love affair with British rock and roll prompted young Tony to pick up the guitar.

By the late 70's Tony had become an accomplished session guitarist and appeared on several notable releases including Air Supply, Debby Boone, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and several Muppet Show releases. It wasn't till the early 80's that Tony founded Zeitgeist Studios and began producing an impressive array of acts. His first major success was with Michael Penn's 1989 debut "March". From there Tony went on to produce Edie Brickell, Public Image Limited, Altered State (album), and Aimee Mann as well as an extensive collection of other artistically outstanding artists.

In the early 90's Berg became an A&R exec with Geffen Records where he played an important role in signing artists such as Beck, Wild Colonials, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, At the Drive-In etc. During this time he continued to produce countless records and play on a wide variety of releases including Peter Gabriel's, "Up".

In 2004 Tony founded Three Records with industry veteran Michael Rosenblatt and super producer Eric Valentine. Their first release was Mellowdrone's "Box".

Around the same time Tony's youngest daughter Elizabeth Berg had created the band The Like with Charlotte Froom and Tennessee Thomas, both of whom were also offspring of well known music industry giants, Mitchell Froom (producer) and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello's drummer). The Like's debut album "Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?" was released on Sept. 13, 2005 on Geffen Records. The album received rave reviews including the NME's infamous statement "these songs really blossom". He also has a son Thomas who is in a local Los Angeles band named Thetan Level Seven.
