Polessky District ( _ru. Поле́сский райо́н) is a district (
raion ) ofKaliningrad Oblast ,Russia . The district's administrative center isPolessk . District's population: 19,018 (2002 Census).The district is situated in the center of the oblast, with the
Curonian Lagoon to the north. The river Deyma, branch of thePregolya , runs through the district. Near Polessk, thePolessk Canal connects Pregolya andNeman River s, crossing abog .The railway line from
Kaliningrad to Sovetsk, and the road Kaliningrad–Guryevsk–Polessk–Bolshakovo lead parallel with the shore of theCuronian Lagoon . Economy is centered around fishery and agriculture.
