History
Formerly known as Oglethorpe Academy, the school was founded by cookbook author Martha Nesbit in 1999. In 2004, the United States Department of Education's Office of Innovation and Improvement, recognized the school as one of eight exemplary charter schools in the United States.The schools Mission Statement is "Partnering with parents and community to inspire students to achieve personal and educational excellence".As the mascot of the school, Oglethorpe Charter School is known as the Titans.[2]
Administration
Governing board
The school is run by an eleven member governing board, the majority of whose members are parents, as required by the Georgia law that allows parent groups to start a charter school.[3] The current board is composed of five parents, two teachers, and two community members who do not have students currently enrolled in the school. Principal
The principal is charged by the governing board with overseeing daily operations of the school. The current principal is Mr. Kevin Wall.[1] The Assistant-principal is Mrs.(Dr.) Jennifer Kolman
