EPCOR operates five power generating facilities within the province of Alberta. The facilities generate electricity using multiple sources such as coal, gas, hydroelectric, and wind. The Genesee coal plants are the largest generation facility owned by EPCOR within Alberta. Genesee phase 3 is stated as the most technologically advanced coal-fired plant built in Canada. The Rossdale Generating Station, the oldest EPCOR facility in Alberta, is located in downtown Edmonton. The Rossdale facility is planned to be decommissioned in 2009, pending the completion of a transmission line to provide backup power supply to Edmonton's downtown core.
EPCOR has been named one of
Canada's Top 100 Employers eight years in a row, as published inMaclean's magazine. EPCOR most recently received this honour in 2008. The only combined water and electricity utility to receive this honour.
