primrose that is endemic to the north coast ofScotland , includingCaithness andOrkney . It is closely related to theArctic species "Primula stricta " and "Primula scandinavica ".Primula scotica is easily distinguished from other Primula by its bluish purple flowers. It flowers in May and often has a second flowering in July. On Orkney it is commonly seen near Yesnaby on the sea cliffs.
