CTIA - The Wireless Association

Originally known as the Cellular Telephone Industries Association [ [http://www.nf2g.com/scannist/nys_laws.html#ecpa1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (ECPA)] ] [ [http://www.mwrf.com/Articles/Index.cfm?Ad=1&ArticleID=18982 AT4 wireless Authorized For Wi-Fi RF Performance Testing] ] ,CTIA [http://www.ctia.org/aboutCTIA/ General information regarding the CTIA] ] is an international industry trade group representing all wireless communication sectors including cellular, personal communication services and enhanced specialized mobile radio. Founded in 1984, they are primarily involved in lobbying [ [http://www.ctia.org/advocacy/ CTIA State and Federal Advocacy] ] the US government and were instrumental in the passage of both the Electronic Communications Privacy Act [ [http://www.nf2g.com/scannist/nys_laws.html#ecpa1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act] ] and the Telecommunications Disclosure & Dispute Resolution Act. The CTIA primarily represents the interests of wireless telecommunications companies. Their board is a mix of service providers, manufacturers and wireless data companies, as well as other contributors to the wireless industry. CTIA operates the industry's leading trade shows, and provides equipment testing and hardware certification programs.

The organization is now known as CTIA - The Wireless Association. The name was changed to better represent the expanding wireless industry. CTIA is now a orphan acronym, it no longer stands for anything and cannot be officially expanded.
