Emley is a small village in West Yorkshire, England between Huddersfield and Wakefield with a population of 1,867 according to the 2001 census. [http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/community/statistics/census-by-settlement/KS02settle2003.xls]

It is 7 km (4.5 miles) east of Huddersfield and 8 km (5 miles) west of Wakefield. The village lies in moorland close to the Emley Moor TV Transmitter. Emley dates from Anglo-Saxon times.

Emley Moor colliery closed in 1985 after a year-long miners' strike, and is now a business park.

Emley has three pubs: "The White Horse", "The Green Dragon", and "The Wentworth" and a stone cross in the centre of the village. There is also a grocery/newsagents, and a post-office.

In line with Yorkshire tradition, there is a brass band in the village - Emley Brass Band, who rehearse twice a week in the village bandroom.

Emley is the home of AFC Emley non-league football club. The original village team, Emley A.F.C., made national headlines in the 1997/98 season when they progressed to the 3rd round of the FA Cup, beating Morecambe and Lincoln City in the first and second rounds. They lost in the third round, 2-1, to West Ham United.

The team then moved to Wakefield in 2000, where they were known as Wakefield & Emley F.C. In 2005 the club split and new club AFC Emley returned to play at the village's Welfare Ground.
