- Abram Poindexter Maury
Abram Poindexter Maury was an American politician, who represented
Tennessee 's eighth district in theUnited States House of Representatives .He was born near
Franklin, Tennessee onDecember 26 ,1801 . He completed preparatory studies and was the editor of anewspaper inSt. Louis, Missouri at the age of sixteen. In 1820 he entered theUnited States Military Academy atWest Point, New York , but left the following year to study law and edit a newspaper inNashville, Tennessee .He was a member of the
Tennessee House of Representatives in 1831, 1832, 1843, and 1844. He was admitted to the bar in 1839 and practiced inWilliamson County, Tennessee . He was elected as a White supporter to the Twenty-fourth Congress by Tennessee's eighth district and re-elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth Congress. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1838.He resumed the practice of law in Williamson County. He also engaged in literary pursuits and lecturing. He served in the
Tennessee Senate in 1845 and 1846. He died near Franklin, Tennessee onJuly 22 ,1848 . He was interred in the family cemetery at his home near Franklin, Tennessee. His father,Abram Poindexter Maury, Sr. , was also a member of theTennessee Senate .External links
