Elizabeth "Teena" Kuipers Mulder (1941-2000) is the mother of the fictional "X-Files" character, Fox Mulder. She is played by Canadian actress Rebecca Toolan as an old woman, and by Shelley Adam as a young woman.

Born Elizabeth Kuipers in Ohio ("Paper Clip"), she later married Bill Mulder. Around 1961, Teena Mulder had a brief affair with the Cigarette Smoking Man, a friend of Bill's. It is later revealed that Fox Mulder was born as a result of this affair. It is unknown whether or not Bill knew that Fox was not his son, though there are hints that he knew Teena was having an affair with Cigarette Smoking Man. In 1965, she gave birth to Samantha Mulder (there is some evidence that suggests Samantha might also be a child of Cigarette Smoking Man). In November 1973, Samantha was abducted from the family home in Chilmark, Massachusetts. Teena divorced Bill soon after and moved to Greenwich, Connecticut. Fox later learned that all members of the Syndicate, including his father, had to offer up their heirs as collateral to the Colonists, in order to insure an alliance, and that he, not Samantha, was the first choice. Soon after Bill Mulder died, Fox asked his mother about this, to which she replied: "I couldn't choose. It was your father's choice, and I hated him for it. Even in his grave, I hate him still." The episode "Demons" showed that Cigarette Smoking Man may have had a hand in this decision.

It was implied that she knew more about Samantha's abduction and the Syndicate than she was letting on, but kept this information to herself, either to protect her son, or because it was too painful for her to bring up.

At the end of season 3, she suffers a stroke. Thanks to a quick emergency call from X, paramedics were able to save her life, but she remained in a coma. It is evident the Cigarette Smoking Man still cares for her, as he keeps vigil at her bedside, and eventually convinces an Alien bounty hunter to use his powers to heal her.

Teena committed suicide after learning that she was terminally ill. Before her death, she subtly requested that Fox accept that Samantha is gone and move on with his life.
