The 1960 Copa Libertadores was the first edition of the Copa Libertadores, CONMEBOL's annual club tournament. The national league champions from Argentina, Brazil (see note), Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay participated in the tournament ("note": Brazil did not send their league champions since they did not have a national league; the Taça Brasil champions were sent). Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela did not send their respective national league champions.

The first match of the tournament was played between Uruguayan side Club Atlético Peñarol and Bolivian side Club Jorge Wilstermann on April 19th in Montevideo, Uruguay. During that game, Luis Borges of Peñarol scored the first goal of the tournament, with fellow teammate Alberto Spencer scoring the first hat-trick. Peñarol would go to become the first Copa Libertadores champions after defeating the Olimpia in the finals.
