Alkali salts

Alkali salts

Alkali salts or base (basic) salts are salts which has basic ions, such as Hydroxides or Carbonates.

Rather than being neutral, as most salts are, basic salts are, as their name suggests, bases.

The acidic equivalent of a basic salt is an acid salt, although unlike a basic salt, an acid salt can act as both acid and base.

Examples of Basic Salts

* Sodium hydroxide (Often called "Caustic soda")
* Potassium hydroxide (Commonly called "Potash")
* Calcium carbonate (Sometimes called "Free lime")
