Ignaz Günther (born
November 22 ,1725 inAltmannstein ,Germany ; diedJune 27 ,1775 inMunich ) was a Germansculptor and woodcarver within the Bavarianrococo tradition.He studied under
Johann Baptist Straub from 1743 to 1750 and underPaul Egell inMannheim from 1751 to 1752. In 1753, he worked at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. In 1754, he started his own shop in Munich.He is best remembered for his work in churches, especially his altars.
