Gerard Windsor

Gerard Windsor

Gerard Windsor (born 29 December 1944) is an Australian author and literary critic. He was dux of St Ignatius' College, Riverview in both 1961 and 1962, where, like Justin Fleming, he was taught by Melvyn Morrow. He was a Jesuit from ages of 18 to 24. From there he studied arts at Australian National University and Sydney University, before a short stint in a medical course. He has been a writer ever since, publishing eight books, including fiction, compilations of essays, and memoirs. [http://www.dfat.gov.au/aib/arts_culture.html]

Awarded the 2005 Pascall Prize for Critical Writing, he noted that "The primary responsibility of the review is to entertain the reader", he said. "The primary responsibility is not to the book or the movie or the play or whatever, which is not to be utterly amoral about it. But nevertheless, it should be a work whole in itself, and give pleasure." [http://www.smh.com.au/news/arts/critic-with-a-heart--and-a-sharp-pen/2005/11/30/1133311099820.html]

His novel, "I Have Kissed Your Lips", was longlisted for the 2005 Miles Franklin Award.
