The Loyola Marymount Ignatians service organization was founded in 1981 as the first co-ed service organization on campus. Created out of the need to attract commuter students to get involved in the service community, the earliest Ignatians stressed the importance of on-campus service but also emphasized the abundant off-campus opportunities for service. Ignatians has grown to include different types of students from diverse backgrounds who all have one thing in common: a love for serving others. The
Jesuit tradition at Loyola Marymount University is rooted in creating well-rounded individuals who can grow and excel in academics and leadership. Of equal importance, however, is the emphasis placed on serving others and the surrounding community.On-Campus Service
Ignatians works intimately with the university's Center for Service and Action to provide volunteers for various on-campus service events. These services include providing ushers for speakers, flyer distribution, assistance in
Mass atSacred Heart Chapel , etc.In addition to requested services from the university, Ignatians also perform services for the student body through their
Random Acts of Kindness program. They organize a specific themed event once a month for the student body and typically reach roughly 200 students with a random act of kindness on that chosen day.
