- Jolyon Howorth
Jolyon Howorth is a British scholar of
European politics and military policy. He is currently Jean Monnet Professor of European Politics at theUniversity of Bath and also a Visiting Professor ofPolitical Science atYale University (2002-2010). Howorth holds a BA in French Studies from theUniversity of Manchester and a PhD in History from theUniversity of Reading .His previous appointments were at the ,
University of Wisconsin-Madison andAston University . He has held Visiting Professorships atHarvard University , theInstitut d’Etudes Politiques (Paris), theUniversity of Washington ,Columbia University andNew York University .In addition, Howorth has held a Senior Research Fellowship at the
European Union ’sInstitute for Security Studies . He is a Senior Research Associate at theInstitut Français des Relations Internationales in Paris, a Fellow of theRoyal Society of Arts in the UK, Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques inFrance , and Member of the advisory boards of theEuropean Institute for Public Administration in theNetherlands , and the Centre for the Study of Security and Diplomacy at theUniversity of Birmingham .He has published extensively in the field of European politics and history, especially security and defense policy and transatlantic relations - thirteen books and over one hundred journal articles and chapters in books. Recent books include: "Defending Europe: the EU,
NATO and the Quest for European Autonomy" (Palgrave, 2003) (edited with John Keeler) and "Security and Defence Policy in the European Union" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007).External links
