Beacon Institute

Beacon Institute

Headquartered on the Hudson River in the City of Beacon, in Dutchess County, New York, The Beacon Institute serves as one of the nation's largest environmental research centers. With a focus on research as well as education, the center has many facilities to accommodate many advanced and state-of-the-art projects.

The facility was founded in 2003, and construction is expected to be completed around 2010. When completed, it will feature its main headquarters on Dennings Point State Park and a fleet of research vessels in the city's harbor.

John Cronin is the Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Beacon Institute and the Director of the Pace Academy for the Environment at Pace University. For more than 30 years, he has dedicated himself to protection of the American environment. He has spent most of his career on New York's Hudson River, as an advocate, lobbyist, legislative aide and commercial fishermen, including 17 years as the Hudson Riverkeeper.
