Tiara of Pope Pius VII

Tiara of Pope Pius VII

The Tiara of Pope Pius VII was the first metallic tiara manufactured to replace the papal tiaras stolen and smashed on Napoleon's orders. It was given to Pope Pius VII in 1820. Though of traditional papal tiara design and decorated by jewels, it was less ornate than tiaras given to popes later in the 19th century.

With the creation of the later tiaras, the Tiara of Pope Pius VII was dropped from Papal use, and remains now a museum piece in the Vatican Treasury.
