R.L. Stine 'sGoosebumps series, and is the inspiration behind the newGoosebumps HorrorLand series. A sequel was published entitledReturn to HorrorLand Plot
It begins with the Morris family on a vacation including Dad, Mom, the main character Lizzy, her brother Luke, and Luke's friend, Clay. Unable to find Zoo Gardens the family instead finds "HorrorLand", an amusement park. As soon as they get out of their car it explodes, trapping the family. They ask where the phones are, but there are no phones. Lizzy and the boys go to have some fun while the parents try to find a way to get home. They notice that there are signs describing the terrors of different rides, and also notice numerous "No Pinching" signs, but they are all passed off as jokes. After several terrifying and seemingly dangerous rides the kids notice that the "costumed" Horrors seem a bit too serious about their work.
The family soon learns that the Horrors actually broadcast the events that go on in HorrorLand on "The Monster Channel", a channel dedicated to real life monsters. The leader, the Horrorland MC, explains that everyone thinks the signs are jokes but they are all true, and then Lizzie realizes that the "No Pinching" signs must have been warnings as well. She gives the Horrorland MC a big pinch and she starts to deflate. While all the other Horrors rush to her aid, the Morrises steal one of the Horrorland buses and head home. But a Horror stowed away with them, giving them passes for next year.

HorrorLand Rides and Attractions
*Doom Slide: The Doom Slide is a large, purple phallic building shaped like a mountain which contains ten slides. One of them, however, is the Doom Slide. Those who choose it are forced to slide forever and ever with no end. This is the first ride that Lizzy, Luke, and Clay go on. However, it should be noted that the Doom Slide is actually slide #10, and it does have an end. After going through an extremely long slide with cobwebs and fake fire in between, the rider ends up in Doom (which is just a different section of the park). Clay Rides the Doom Slide.
*House of Mirrors: The House of Mirrors is a small building made out of glass. Once inside, a person will sooner or later get trapped inside a room of glass where the walls will close in and try to crush them, until a chute opens and they slide out.
*Bat Barn: A big, red barn that is inhabited by bats.
*Coffin Cruises: A person is put inside an open casket that floats down a river, until the casket slams shut and the person is left in the darkness. Near the end, the person can feel something crawling up their legs - that is, spiders!
*Werewolf Village: The Werewolf Village is one of many monster villages found throughout Horrorland. The Village is inhabited by Horrors and werewolves.
*Horror Rapids: Not much is known about this ride, although it can be found near the House of Mirrors.
*Roller coaster: An out-of-order roller coaster found near the Bat Barn. Despite it being broken, people can still ride it, if they dare.
*Free Fall: A large, green building which is "the only bungee jump without a cord".
*Alligator Pond: The Pond is a small inlet of water which people can swim in, even though alligators live in it.
*Vampire Village: The Vampire Village can be found near the Monster Zoo.
*Monster Zoo: The Monster Zoo is viridian colored building which, according to Lizzy Morris, "horrible shrieks and howls can be heard from within".
*Guillotine Museum: The Guillotine Museum is a large, yellow building found near the Monster Zoo and Vampire Village.(In the television version They encounter a Horror with a Severed Head that Might have gone on it. It said "Stay off the Guillotine Ride! Sharp Turns!")TV Version
*In the TV version {in 2 parts} there are differences:
**In the second part, the Morris family are contestants on a HorrorLand game show called "Raw Deal", which parodies several game shows such as "Wheel of Fortune", with an SUV as a prize. They end up going through a door containing a killer dog-like monster, but escape thanks to a friendly Horror who wanted the job as a host, but was rejected because he wasn't related to the producer (the host who ended up getting the job is revealed to be the producer's brother-in-law).
**The family encounters a Horror with a severed human head which warns the family that a curve on a ride is quite "Sharp" in the TV version.
**The Morris family car doesn't explode--in fact the car has a strange device secretly planted on it in the beginning, and when the family drives away, the game show host is shown controlling their car with a remote. They end up teetering on the edge of a cliff. The scene then cuts to a pair of married Horrors watching all of what happened on TV, with the husband turning the TV off and commenting, "I'm so sick of these scary human shows!"
*Clay is absent in the TV version.
*There isn't a Doom Slide in the TV version
*Luke and Lizzy only went on the House of Mirrors and the Coffin Cruise in the TV version.
*The TV episode includes a couple of "funny" commercials which include "50 Monster Love Hits" and "Human Action Figures"
