"American Cruise Lines" is a small-ship cruise line based in the United States. The line operates four small ships along the Eastern Seaboard of the US.

History

American Cruise Lines first operated in the early 1970s, when there was a boom in small-ship coastal cruising. They operated until going out of business in the 1980s.

In 2000, the same owner started the company back up again. He also owned the ship yard where the ships would be built. The first ship to be launched was the 49-passenger "American Eagle", and was followed in 2002 by the same-sized "American Glory". The "American Spirit" was launched in 2005 and held twice as many passengers. A fourth ship, "American Star" launched in 2007.

Recently, the line announced plans to form a sister line, Pearl Seas Cruises, to be based in Canada. It will have larger, more luxurious vessels and sail in Canada, the Caribbean, and Central America.
