The Lieutenant of Inishmore

"The Lieutenant of Inishmore" is a black comedy by playwright Martin McDonagh, who wrote the Tony award winning play, "The Pillowman".

"The Lieutenant of Inishmore" was first produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in London in 2001. It also ran at the Lyceum Theatre, on Broadway. The opening night cast included Jeff Binder, Andrew Connolly, Dashiell Eaves, Peter Gerety, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian d'Arcy James, Alison Pill, and David Wilmot. It was directed by Wilson Milam. The play mainly discusses bloody comedy and sentiment for Padraic's cat, Wee Thomas. It mainly concerns the Irish National Liberation Army who fought for Ireland.

Recent American runs include productions at GableStage, in Coral Gables, Florida, from August 11 to September 9, 2007, and at the Alley Theatre, in the Theater District of Houston, TX. It ran from January 25 to February 24, 2008.

Its most recent American run is at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia. It runs from September 23, 2008 to November 16, 2008. The most recent independent Australian production runs 30th of September to 18th of October 2008, at the Sue Benner Theatre, Metro Arts in Brisbane, Queensland, with special permission by Dominie Pty. Ltd.

In the Broadway version, six gallons of fake blood (made from a mixture of peanut butter, chocolate syrup, and corn syrup) were used at each performance.
