- Electronics City
Electronics City is an electronics
industrial park spread over 332 acres (1.3 km²) in Konappana Agrahara and Doddathogur villages, just outsideBangalore ,India . It houses more than a hundred industries, including IT industry leaders such asWipro ,Hewlett-Packard ,Motorola ,Infosys , Siemens,ITI ,Satyam etc. The area is maintained by Keonics, which provides all the necessary infrastructure. The Electronics City was the brainchild of
R.K. Baliga , the first Chairman and Managing Director of Keonics, Karnataka Electronics. He dreamt of making Bangalore theSilicon Valley of India when he developed the concept of Electronic City. He did not live to see his dream materialize (he died in 1988). The liberalisation of the Indian economy in the early 1990s by the then Indian Prime MinisterP.V. Narasimha Rao and then Indian Finance MinisterDr. Manmohan Singh helped Electronic City to become what it is today—the outsourcing capital of the world. With the development of Electronics City Phase 2, many more companies have set up shop here and this has led to enormous strain on the connecting roads from
Bangalore . In November 2004 the government decided to construct a 9 kilometer long elevated road to enable smoother traffic flow. Work has already started and is now expected to be complete by the January of 2009.Electronics City also is the home of the
International Institute of Information Technology - Bangalore which is one of the premier graduate schools in India, focussing on all aspects of Information Technology..* Area 332 acres (134 ha)

In recent years, the main highway connecting Electronics City with Bangalore has seen a large increase in vehicular traffic, causing traffic jams at several road junctions. Currently, major infrastructure improvements are taking place including widening of the road and the building of a 9 kilometer elevated highway. It promises to reduce and redistribute the traffic for a smoother flow. The highway or Hosur road, also has some buildings of some major IT players like BOSCH, Sasken, Convergys etc, along with showrooms of major auto manufacturers like
Volvo ,Audi ,BMW ,Toyota ,Honda etc.Educational institutes
