Gener Pedrina

Gener "Ner" Pedrina (born January 1, 1970) is a freelance Filipino comic book artist who has taken on various roles in the industry. Most notable is his creation of Sanduguan. Pedrina graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the Angeles University of the Philippines, Angeles City, Pampanga.

Early career

Pedrina began his career with his first foray into comics initially as a member of the Alamat co-founding group Virtual Media , the creators of A.R.C.H.O.N. During his stint with them, he co-created the short-lived Handicrap Comics (1996) with his original partners and company mates Jonathan "Kajo" Baldisimo and Jeck Ebreo, which lasted all of six issues. The comics contained 3 titles per issue, one of which was Sanduguan which appeared in issues 5 and 6. His other creations appeared in Handicrap were the Bato and Zodiac comics.

After Handicrap, Pedrina was commissioned to do pin-up art for Alamat Comics' On The Verge and later did art for True Philippine Ghost Stories published by Psicom. He also did color work for Darna as it was released in International 3-issue format, published by Mango Comics in 2003. In 2004, he also did the art for Dynatica Comics' Tikbalang Nation. He worked with Psicom creating lay-outs for the magazine section of DC Kids Philippines, the official digest-sized reprints of the TV tie-ins- "Teen Titans Go!", "The Batman Strikes!" and "Justice League Unlimited".

The Sanduguan Universe

Ner began creating the Sanduguan universe with Handicrap comics expanding it into other media. After Handicrap Comics, his Zodiac comic was released independently in Comic Quest stores in 2002. The work was then published online. Sanduguan's iconic character representations gained a large fanbase among artists and comic book buffs, and many popular artists volunteered to represent the characters in various art forms. Sanduguan quickly became a gallery favorite.

There was an attempted release of Sanduguan in Blue Shuffle's digest in 2002, but production fell through. Sanduguan was released as an RPG campaign in the 2003 comic convention. It was released in a new format independently sold exclusively for the Comic Convention in 2004, and is scheduled for release as a seven-issue mini-series Sanduguan: Revelations. Bato was published anew with the release of Komiks ATBP published by Point Zero, an offshoot of Blitzworks in 2006.
