History
Gurramkonda is a Hill-Fort town. In the sequence of political history it was one of the fort town for
Vijayanagara kingdom. It was ruled by Vijayanagara kingdom, its king was wiseSri Krishna Deva Raya . The name Gurram + Konda ( Which actually means HORSE + HILL) was given to this place because the rulers of this kingdom travelled on horses to reach the top of the steep hill where they had their palace. The top of the hill looks like one huge rock and very fascinating. One can climb the steps and have a fantastic view of the surroundings.Though the palace is pretty much in ruins, it's an interesting visit. This place also has a tomb for
Tippu Sultan 's maternal uncle (his mother's brother) atMaqbira . There is a temple for Narasimha swami in the hills. You could witness how Indian culture has been transformed by various invaders. Many ancient temples and architectures were destructed and revamped with their own style of architecture. Gurram Konda is one such an example. Another place to visit in Gurramkonda is the Ranginimahal. This has a very interesting architecture and is located at the foot of the hill. There is a secret way form top of the hill toChandragiri .another place to see on the top of the hill is sward which has been broken and it is in the rock,On the top of the hill we can find the grass pond which will be full of grass and water the main attractive thing in this grass pond is that the local people call it as "geddi padava" which means the boat of grass. It is so called because it makes us float on the water which will be of deep upto 3 feet, the most interesting and unknown monument about the building at the foot of the hill is that it is contained a statue of mahakali which seems to be more ferrocious and at the look of the statue every one gets scared where the people believe that the goddess is guarding at the hidden treasure under that statue. In front of the fort at the foot of the hill there survived a big lake called enugulacheruvu, which is used to make a bath for the elephants and the water used for the irrigational purpose in the olden days which is now under extinction, and another interesting thing is recently another palace infornt of that old palace had found and to tell about that it was really fascinating. The economy in this town is thriving on agriculture. The most popular crops in this area are paddy, tomato, & groundnut. People are warm and mostly belong to middleclass and lowermiddle class echelons. People in this town are amicable. Religious harmony is at its best in this small town.
